Can technology save us from the consequences of technology, or is the only route out of our current environmental predicament a return to simpler ways? This is now a generations old question that still remains unanswered, which begs another question - can this subject possibly be tackled in a two hour event in a north campus bar in Columbus, Ohio?
Well, we hope you’re game to find out, because we have a simple event planned for this Thursday, July 15 at Dick’s Den. It starts at 6 with some casual networking. At 7, Sarah Straley will take the stage and tell us about the good works of Simply Living. Then it is up to you all to participate in what we hope will be a lively QA&C (Question, Answer & Comment) session about voluntary simplicity and its potential to save the world (as we know it). Please note that Dick’s Den only takes cash, which is fitting because credit can be so complicating. We hope to see you (and your friends, co-workers, family, neighbors, etc.) on Thursday.

There you stand with diploma in hand, and a job offer far away. How will you take your belongings along, while leaving no trace? We are here to tell you that there are lots of ways of moving green. All you need to do is attend the enviro-event where you come to be seen - Green Drinks.
Please join us for a moving discussion about green moving featuring Gavin Derryberry of EcoPack on Thursday, June 17 from 6 to 8 at Byrne’s Pub (1248 W. 3rd), which is just a stone’s throw from the Olentangy bike path in Grandview. After Green Drinks, stick around for the lively Irish rock sounds of the Killdares.

Columbus is an upcoming bike city (ranked 34th by Bicycling Magazine), and it only makes sense. We have a laundry list of elements that are the envy of cyclists in other cities, such as:
- Leadership provided by our Mayor, Bikin’ Mike Coleman
- Top notch advocacy groups, including Consider Biking and Yay! Bikes
- An ambitious plan to increase bicycle access - Bicentennial Bikeways Plan
- Very flat topography, especially compared to biking meccas like Portland, OR and San Francisco, and
- You! Yes, you, the hearty Central Ohio bicyclists that won’t let a little foul weather stop you from commuting and bar hopping on two wheels
Especially for you (and your friends, family, etc.), we have planned a special Green Drinks bike hop event that will take our potable pelaton from Gresso’s (6-7 pm) in German Village to St. James Tavern (7:30-8:30pm) in Italian Village to Wild Goose Creative (9pm on) in the North Campus area. At the final stop, riders will be treated to a musical-comedy Paul McCartney Roast ($3 cover for Green Drinks riders/$5 otherwise), and the tour will also include an opportunty to stop by Mikey’s Late Night Slice to get some needed calories to power the pedals.

Listen, laugh and save the Earth at April Green Drinks. A comedy and music Earth Day benefit show at Neo-V gallery space of local gourmet vegan restaurant, Dragonfly, recently nominated for a James Beardaward. The show draws from a very talented cast of comedic performers who are doing great things putting Columbus on the map as a comedy town - hosted by the God Father of Columbus Comedy, SeanSommerville. March Green Drinks - Earth Day Kickoff

If you can’t beat them…
March is full of occasions for tossing back a few - St. Patty’s Day, NCAA basketball tourny and (of course) Green Drinks. Every year, March Green Drinks falls on the first day of the NCAA, and this has led to some conflicted enviro b-ball fans. But have no fear we’ve pick a spot that has an ample number of TVs that will be muted (not turned off) during our program. We have also picked an Irish (sounding) place - Michael O’Toole’s. So, you’ll have no excuse to miss this month’s event.
Green Drinks will be on Thursday, March 18 from 6 to 8pm. Our topic for March is Earth Day, which doesn’t come until April, but there is already a lot brewing. This year’s citywide Earth Day event - The Update - will span three days (April 17 & 18 volunteer worksites, April 22 celebration). The goal is to get 10,000 volunteers engaged, and this would be impossible without you. So, mark your calendar and find out how you, your company, your school, and the rest of central Ohio can get involved. If you can’t wait until March 18, please visit www.Update2010.org.

Some say the best place to meet that special someone is the library, for others it’s a concert or the grocery store. Well, we are here to make the case for environmental networking events. Where else can you find someone who shares your ethic and appreciates good beer?
For February, Green Drinks is trying a new location (McFadden’s) and a special format that will spur dating and raise some green for local environmental groups. Curious? Well, stayed tuned and mark your calendar (with a green heart?) for Thursday, February 18 from 6 to 8 pm.

Happy New Decade!
Welcome to a new decade, one full of hope for a better future. Many are speculating about what kind of decade the teens will be. One where all countries of the world reach consensus on global climate change? One where we break our addiction to fossil fuels? One where Columbus, Ohio will have free curbside recycling? One where you will (finally) see an entertaining environmental movie? Time will tell with the first few, but we may have an answer for the last one.
On Thursday, January 21, we will be returning to Studio 35 for our annual Green Drinks movie event. The movie for the 2010 edition will (hopefully) be No Impact Man, which has been hailed as “Terrifically entertaining. Compelling and extremely funny.” (Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times). So, save the date, and be sure to tell your friends about it too.
